Parrish Healthcare Leads North Brevard Community Health Needs Assessment

Parrish Healthcare Leads North Brevard Community Health Needs Assessment

TITUSVILLE, FLA. (September 29, 2025)—Since 2016, Parrish Healthcare has taken the lead to conduct a triennial independent Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) specifically focused on the people living in North Brevard. The latest 2025 North Brevard Community Health Needs Assessment has been completed and was approved by the Parrish Healthcare Board of Directors on Monday, August 4, 2025.

Parrish’s Board of Directors, representing their constituents, wanted to make sure that Parrish, the area’s only public not-for-profit community health system, gathered feedback specifically from the people living within the district boundaries, defined by the following zip codes 32780, 32926, 32754, 32927, 32926 and 32922.

“While there is a countywide assessment that is conducted, responses from the residents of North Brevard zip codes were historically low and we know that the demographic makeup of North Brevard differs widely from that of central and south Brevard County,” said Parrish Healthcare Chairman of the Board Robert Jordan.

As an example, Brevard County’s poverty level is 9.9%, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, while North Brevard’s poverty level is 25.6%.

“The board was not comfortable with relying on the countywide assessment to make and guide decisions about the health needs for the people we represent and approved the hospital to engage a third-party to conduct our own assessment,” said Jordan.

Parrish Healthcare engaged Professional Research Consultants (PRC), national experts, to conduct the needs assessment effort specifically for North Brevard residents.

“A Community Health Needs Assessment is a systematic, data-driven approach used to study the health status, behaviors and needs of residents served by Parrish Healthcare,” said Parrish Medical Center President/CEO George Mikitarian.

Given the results of the assessment, the following represent the top five (5) priorities approved to be developed into a three-year implementation plan: (1) Access to Health Care Services; (2) Heart Disease & Stroke; (3) Cancer; (4) Diabetes; and (5) Respiratory Diseases.

Parrish Healthcare believes that by narrowing our focus to these priorities, meaningful improvement can be achieved across the board.

“Through the Community Health Needs Assessment, Parrish Healthcare’s leadership are able to make informed decisions about resource allocation and strategic priorities to address and/or to close healthcare gaps, while fulfilling our mission, vision and values on behalf of the communities we have the honor to serve,” added Mikitarian.

A random sample of 300 north Brevard residents and 75 members of Parrish Healthcare’s Community Health Partnership participated in the needs assessment and prioritization. The Community Health Partnership represents a diverse cross-section of the county’s health and human services, social services, civic and faith-based organizations, among other community stakeholders.
